Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1776. |
National Pursuit of Happiness Week
occurs every year during the second week in November. No one is sure about when
or how this celebration was started, but it is believed to have developed out
of a phrase from the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of
Independence says that Americans have "unalienable rights, that among them
are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Everyone deserves and has the right
to be happy. While happiness comes naturally for some, it does not for everyone.
In order to find happiness, sometimes you just have to choose to be happy or
make changes in your life. Making yourself happy or finding out what makes you
happy can often be difficult, but here are some tips to do so:
- Think happy thoughts and develop a positive outlook. Making a conscious effort to be positive can result in long-term benefits.
- Reassess your life and priorities. Make sure you are spending time each day doing things that bring you joy. If necessary, remove negative obstacles from your life.
- Surround yourself with happy people. Much like a laugh, happiness can be contagious.
