Craft: Memorial Day Handprint Wreath

Memorial Day is fast approaching, and so we’ve put together this fun Memorial Day craft to do with your students. Do it before Memorial Weekend so students have a fun decoration for the day.

Students will have a blast using their handprints to make this great decoration. By using their own handprints, this craft is truly unique to each student!

These are the supplies required for the craft. It is likely they are already in your classroom. If not, the links go straight to the products on our website.

Glue
Pens/Pencils
Scissors
Red, White, and Blue Construction Paper               Hole-Punch
Yarn/String

We’ve created a PDF file that you can download and print with the instructions and pictures. We hope you and your students have as much fun making it as we did.

Amid the crafts and excitement as a long weekend approaches, don’t forget to teach your students the meaning of Memorial Day. We often get caught up in family activities while enjoying the day, and forget to think hard about what the holiday means. Your students should know what the day is there to honor.

Memorial Day is a day to remember all those soldiers who died to protect our freedom. It is a day to respect the armed forces. Encourage your students to take some time to think about any family they have that are in the service or used to serve. If they have no family in the service, have them think about historical figures that served instead.

Ask students what they’re doing for Memorial Day. Maybe even give them a list of activities they could do to pay their respects, such as attending a parade, making cards to send to soldiers, or calling family members in the service.

Have fun with the holiday, but don’t lose sight of the meaning behind it. Enjoy the three day weekend and during it, take a moment to reflect on our armed forces yourself.

Teacher Appreciation

Today is National Teacher’s Day, and everyone at Teacher’s Square would like to offer a sincere thank you to all the educators out there. Without you, there would be no school. We appreciate all the work you do to keep our kids educated.

We all know that teachers often don’t get the respect they deserve. Whether you’re doing crafts with young children in kindergarten or teaching chemistry in high school, you are doing something important. You are instilling students with base skills that they’ll need to excel in the world, and you should be honored for that.

National Teacher’s Day was created for that. It is a day created to remind everyone of just how important educators are in our society, and how important they always will be.

So thank you to all the teachers out there. All of us appreciate all the work and passion that goes into teaching children.
